Cadet Program Training

The Cadet Pilot Programme selection process is a multi-stage, process designed to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude, personality, and potential as a commercial pilot. There are several FTOs that execute Cadet Pilot Programs for Indigo and Air India Airlines.

Stage 1. Application Screening & Initial Eligibility

The first step involves an online application through an airline-approved Flight Training Organisation (FTO) like CAE, Skyborne, or Insight Aviation.

  • Key Requirements: Minimum 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and English with passing aggregate of minimum 50-60% each in every subject based on airline. The age for the airline must be an Indian National/OCI between the age group 18–35 years.
  • Medical: You must hold a valid DGCA Class 2 medical to apply and eventually obtain Class 1 fitness before the Letter Of Intent (LOI) is issued.

Stage 2. Written Exam & Pilot Aptitude Assessment

Shortlisted candidates are invited for computer-based testing for ADAPT/ CASS assessment.

  • Written Test: Covers 10+2 level Physics, Mathematics (numerical and applied), and English.
  • Aptitude Test: Evaluates cognitive skills, including hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, multitasking, and short-term memory on a simulator.
  • Psychometric Questionnaire:A personality screener to assess behavioural traits and cultural fit for the airline.

Narain Aviation has several Simulators for practice by the aspiring cadets to create real time training practices. This allows the students to be fully prepared for the actual aptitude assessment and the Cadet is not surprised during the test.

Stage 3. Group Discussion (GD) / Group Activity

Successful candidates from Stage 2 move to a group exercise conducted by an airline selection panel.

  • Purpose: To observe teamwork, communication skills, leadership, and how you behave under pressure in a collaborative setting.
  • Format: Typically involves solving a problem as a group or discussing an aviation-related or general topic.

Narain Aviation conducts several rounds of Group Discussions with the entire course. Special attention is placed on grooming, conduct, mannerisms, voice modulation etc. Air Cmde Lalit Jain, who has been an assessor for over 5 years, teaches trainees discussion techniques with specific personal inputs. The program covers all trending topics.

Stage 4. Personal Interview (PI)

The final stage is an interview with a panel typically consisting of senior pilots, Technical member and HR representatives.

  • Focus : Evaluation of motivation, aviation awareness, and alignment with IndiGo’s values.
  • Questions: Can range from technical basics (how a plane flies) to personal and behavioural questions.

Narain Aviation conducts personal interviews  for each candidate with the entire panel. We discuss individual traits across multiple sessions to create a practical improvement plan.

Post-Selection & Onboarding

  • Letter of Intent (LOI): Successful candidates receive an official Letter of Intent for employment, conditional on completing the training successfully.
  • Re-attempt Policy:  Most partners allow a maximum of two attempts for each stage, usually with a cooling-off period (3 to 6 months) if you fail an initial attempt.
